Signed by famous clockmaker, "Charles R. Sligh, Limited Edition, #28 of 1000, Model 233," a spectacular tall case or grandfather clock is about 20 years old.
The solid cherry case is accented with inlaid ebony and flame grain mahogany banding and marquetry inlay. All glass panes are beveled, doors open with brass keys. The polished finish is superb with only very minor mars on this top of the line Georgian design furniture, made in Holland, Michigan.
Nine chime tubes softly play the familiar Westminster melody from Big Ben on Parliament in London. The resonant tune plays on each quarter and the hour is also counted. There are controls to play St. Michael and Whittington melodies as well, plus "silent" and "night off" controls.
The dial, pendulum and three weights are richly embossed, this palatial clock winds with a crank and runs a week.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Measurements are 27" wide, 17" deep and 91" tall.
