Stand Up or Stool Height 8' Antique Desk

A wonderful stand up or stool height desk was used in a railroad station. Signed on a brass plate, "Revell & Co, Chicago," this mahogany desk has great character and patina - the finish is very fine, there are lots of mars and scratches from a century's use. The front of the desk sags a bit down due to age - see photos.

Dating from about 1900, there is a removable gallery to rest timetables or accounting journals on. There are four large dovetailed drawers below the slanted surface, to the rear is a pencil rest. Brass feet are on the separate base section.

This desk looks like it was used by Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim's father in A Christmas Carol or Herman Melville's "Bartleby the Scrivener." Tall desks like this are useful for artists and designers as well.

The top slants up from 42 1/2" to 45" tall, and could be shortened if desired. Recalling the clean lines of Arts and Crafts furniture, measurements of this American antique are 8' long, 35" deep and 56" tall.
