Stool, Hand Carved Elm Late 1700's Antique #28590

This country stool was hand carved of solid elm hardwood in the late 1700's. The design is English, but this rugged traditional furniture could have been carved in America by a British craftsman. rungs and legs have the variations that show hand work.

The top is a single plank of figured elm. The restored finish preserves lots of stains, losses and shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Reglued to serve another generation, this antique is tight and strong. Underneath is a label from Richard Norton Antiques, Chicago.
