Signed by America's most famous jeweler, "Tiffany & Co." of New York City, a 1915 era tall case or grandfather clock has a spectacular dial and keeps excellent time.
The solid mahogany case has a fine old finish with a few mars and "crazing" or crackling from age for antique character.
Gold plated filigree on the dial is exquisite, the hand painted moon ring also depicts clipper ships at sea. There is discoloration at the top on the world map and calendar ring, see photos.
Three weights are wound with an original brass crank. The familiar "Westminster" tune from Big Ben at Parliament in London plays on the quarter hour on five nickel chime tubes, the top of the hour is also counted.
A brilliant brass 8 day movement has been serviced recently on this historic clock, brass weight covers and pendulum are original. The lock and key work on the lower door, the upper lock does not work, the key is a handle only.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Measurements of this imposing furniture are 23" wide, 16" deep and 7' 6" tall.
