Expertly hand carved of walnut about 1870, this stellar oval table has an exquisite burl and marquetry top and was used for serving breakfast or tea, and would make a marvelous center or lamp table.
Vibrant and curly matched "oyster" burl is radiant with intricate inlaid marquetry of satinwood, ebony and mahogany. The lustrous finish is in superb condition with exceptionally warm patina. There are mars, warps and shrinkage separations from age and use - see photos.
Elegant and sophisticated antique furniture from Victorian England, the "birdcage" base is graceful. Porcelain wheels are original.
If you have sufficient household staff, the table top can be tilted up and stowed in a corner until the next breakfast or tea is served. Dimensions are 52" long, 40" deep and 28" tall.
