Biedermeier Empire Antique Coffee Table

Authentic Empire or "Biedermeier" furniture from the 1830's, this is either the world's first coffee table or has been shortened from center table height.

The sculpted marble top is excellent, and the classic base in birch with ebony is strong and solid. Wooden pegs attach the top, it is not obvious where the reduced height took place, so we assume it was done by a very skilled carpenter within the last 75 years.

The finish is beautiful with glowing warm antique patina. There have been touchups and small shrinkage separations as would be expected on this historic furniture with clean and elegant lines.

Crafted entirely by hand in Austria or Germany, size is 39" diameter and 19" tall.
