Entirely hand carved in high relief, this court cupboard or dowry cabinet has a wonderful country scene in perspective, plus statues of court jesters, heads, griffins and fruit. Although the design is a classic 19th Century dowry cabinet, the central scene is signed "Retour des Champs par R. Lannoye, 1922," or "Return from the Fields by R. Lannoye, 1922." Traditions in the French countryside endured well into the 20th Century.
Solid fine grained oak, the original finish is remarkably well preserved. Deep moldings and carved details add interest to this historic furniture from northern France.
The artistry is remarkable in the three dimensional figures. This antique can be separated for easier handling. Drawers have hand cut dovetails on this heirloom cabinet.
Measurements are 58" wide, 18" deep and 105" tall. The surface area is 36" from the floor.
