A "melodeon" from the 1840's is an ancestor of the reed organ, and still works very well. The genuine rosewood case has a very fine old finish with warm patina and a little wear for antique character, even the back is finished.
Pumping the right pedal plays the keys, the bellows are in excellent condition and do not leak, this instrument plays even after you stop pumping. The left pedal is the "swell," or loudness control.
American made parlor furniture, we see no signature. White keys are genuine ivory, all but one plays. The lid closes to form a console table, the filigree music desk is also original.
Dimensions of this picturesque musical instrument are 48" wide, 23" deep and 31" tall.
