A stately tall case or grandfather clock was hand carved of solid mahogany about 1900, the movement is signed "Elite, Germany."
Entirely original, the satiny finish is in extremely fine condition with only minor mars at the edges. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its rich patina of this antique furniture.
Raised panels, lion paw feet and deeply sculpted shell are beautiful. Original glass in the upper door is wavy, plate glass in the lower door is shaped and beveled.
The lavishly hand engraved dial is wonderful, there is a hand painted moon ring above. The brass 8 day movement keeps excellent time and has been professionally cleaned and oiled, the calendar dial works.
Elite was the top of the line clock imported by Barvo & Dotter, the maker is assumed to be premier German clockmaker, "Winterhalter and Hofmeier," but is not signed as such.
The left lever is silent when up, and strikes when down, counting the hour on a resonant chime tube.
Measurements of this historic clock are 28" wide, 18" deep and 7' 11" tall.
