This large Chinese dowry chest held a young woman's linens and treasures, and was built in three stacking sections with handles to carry to her new home when she was married.
Hand crafted of richly figured ash hardwood, traditional construction includes wooden pegs, hand cut mortise and tenon joints and hand planing marks.
The old finish has warm antique patina and lots of mars and dings for antique character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Wrought iron and brass hardware includes various replacements over the years. Two center doors open to three tray drawers inside.
Overall dimensions of this picturesque Asian furniture are 67" wide, 16" deep and 65 1/2" tall.
