Hand hewn of solid cherry about 1780, this authentic Country French or Provincial armoire has loads of antique character. The old hand rubbed silky finish is in very fine condition with exceptionally warm patina.
Lift off hand wrought hinges are original, the giant lock and key work. Inside are later shelves that are removable, interior depth is 19" so a closet pole could be installed if desired. Every surface is hand planed, carved wooden pegs secure the joints of this wonderfully understated furniture from France.
There are shrinkage separations from age in the richly figured cherry planks. An extra board from about 100 years ago supports one back leg, see photos. Paneled and chamfered, the back is oak with holes for electronic cables. The crown is removable for easier moving. Original brass keyhole escutcheons have a loss and a separation.
Measurements are 7' 6" tall, 55" wide at the crown, 51 1/2" wide in the body and 22" deep.
