Signed "Original Glashutte," this oak grandfather or tall case clock from Germany dates from about 1920. The brass movement keeps excellent time and runs for about six days on a winding by pull chains.
Original brass dial, weights and pendulum have a few dings for antique character, see photos. There is a two note chord played on resonant chimes counting the hour and the half. On the back is a signature, "AMUF," apparently referring to a Berlin maker, "A. Mustroph."
The arched case has its original finish that is very well preserved. It has been waxed and buffed so that all it needs to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are minor warps and shrinkage separations from age as shown.
Measurements are 21" wide, 10" deep and 73 1/2" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
