From the 1890's, a "stereoscope" viewer was made to view stereo photograph cards with a three dimensional effect. Also called a "stereopticon," the viewer is maple with a birdseye grain hood, trimmed in velvet. Lenses are reglued and the handle folds on this American made antique.
The finish is original and has enough wear for a little antique patina. A random collection of about 40 stereo cards includes views of New York City, Yosemite, Peruvian scenes, a street market in Germany, drying raisins in California, etc.
The viewer measures 7" across, 13" long and 8" tall including the handle.
