Hand crafted of solid oak in Germany about 1910, this "Arts and Crafts" period desk has a cylinder or barrel roll top which glides up and down smoothly.
The original deep finish is in extremely fine condition with a few mars for a little antique character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Lower doors have simple ebony marquetry. The pull out writing surface is inlaid with gold tooled leather. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints, embossed brass hardware is original on this antique library furniture. The upper section is removable for easier transport. Door and roll top locks have working keys, drawers do not.
Dimensions are 55" wide, 31 1/2" deep, 54" tall to the top of the gallery, the desktop is 30 1/2" high and the kneehole is 21" wide and 27" tall.
