German Walnut 1840's Antique Chest or Trunk, Wrought Iron Mounts

A large trunk or chest was hand carved of solid walnut in Germany about 1840.

Corners have hand cut dovetail joints, wrought iron hinges and front crest are original on this well worn antique furniture. There are mars and shrinkage separations from age, see photos. The old finish is in very good condition, and has been waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The lock does not work.

Size is 54" wide, 22" deep and 23" tall.
