A pair of large portraits of the Guangxi Emperor and Empress Dowager of China are painted on paper, probably gouache or watercolor, but we have not opened the frames for inspection. Chinese portraits appear to be around 125 years old, the gold frames are American and about 60 years old.
The last Qing dynasty rulers, the Guangxi Emperor lived 1871-1908, and the Empress Dowager 1835-1908. These lavish pictures show them in formal court regalia, and are in very good condition.
Overall size is 35" wide, 57" tall and 1" deep.
