A splendid pair of provincial or country bookcases were carved of solid oak about 1780 in France. Hand hewn with raised panels, joints are secured with carved wooden pegs on this true right and left pair.
The old finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed. All that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are warps and shrinkage separations from age for a little character, see photos.
Shelves adjust on wooden supports. Giant locks and keys still work on this antique library furniture. Doors have original lift off hinges, crowns are removable for easier delivery.
Size including crowns is 50" wide, 18" deep and 108 1/2" tall, without crowns, measurements are 44" wide, 15" deep and 105" tall.
