An authentic set of four "Hitchcock" dining chairs from about 1840 have stenciled painting and rush seats. Lambert Hitchcock lived 1795-1852, and designed and made these chairs in his Connecticut factory. Comfortable and sturdy, the design is still made.
The original finish is in remarkably good condition with a little wear for antique character, see photos. Frames are tight and durable, reglued to serve another generation. One rush seat is still strong but has some broken pieces of rush.
Measurements are 18" wide, 18" deep, 34" tall and the seats are 18 1/2" high.
