This marvelous six panel screen has Renaissance scenes painted above Trompe-l'œil panels below. Dating from about 1910, the richly toned paintings are on canvas. Edges are bound in leather with brass nailhead trim. The backside is painted in a geometric pattern.
These screens were often used to cover a door to the kitchen, so diners couldn't see in. But as a local millionaire told me, "Now we get our own sandwiches, so it's alright to look in the kitchen, and we don't need these anymore."
American made antique furniture, each arched panel is 21" wide, 76" tall and 1" deep, so if stretched out flat, width is 10' 6." When set up accordion style in photo, overall width is 9.'
