A charming English Victorian period travel or lap desk is mahogany and rosewood and has an engraved plaque, "Presented to Joseph Robinson by the Ancient Order of Forester's Chapel... 24 Sept., 1859."
The interior has a slanted writing surface with gold tooled leather. A key operates the interior lock only, the escutcheon is genuine mother of pearl. Underneath is stationery storage plus a secret compartment, pulling an tiny divider releases a spring loaded panel, inside are tiny drawers.
The case has brass inlay and a restored finish. A custom mahogany stand from about 79 years ago is a separate piece.
Overall size when closed is 18 1/2" x 11" and 20 1/2" tall.
