Country French Provincial Carved 1780 Armoire

Genuine country French or provincial furniture from about 1780, this armoire is solid oak, and delicately carved with artistic floral and wheat motifs.

There are repairs and losses as would be expected on a true antique of this age, the rich brown finish is excellent.

Doors and crown lift off to facilitate moving. Raised panels accent the doors and sides. Removable shelves are old but not original.

There is some shrinkage at the hand-planed tongue and groove joints, and the corners are secured with hand-carved square wooden pegs. An iron key operates the lock, and measurements are 5'7" wide, 26" deep and 7 1/2' tall.
