The solid cherry case of this grandfather or tall case clock is an authentic American Federal period antique from about 1780 with a hand-painted dial. The original movement is lost, and a modern Westminster chime brass movement has been installed. Recently oiled, it keeps excellent time and is chain wound.
Striking the famous chime melody on the quarter hour, the tone is resonant. The dial is well worn with losses, and the door has old wavy glass. There is wonderful warm patina to the historic case, which has a beautiful finish along with edge mars and shrinkage separations from the last 200 years.
Measurements of this charming New England clock are 19" wide, 12" deep and 7'1" tall.
