Genuine country French furniture from about 1780, this armoire is solid oak, and delicately carved with artistic floral and geometric motifs. There are repairs and losses as would be expected on a true antique of this age, every plank is hand hewn and planed.
Artistic hand carving is in full relief, same way marble is carved. The floor and drawers show some rebuilding, probably a century ago. Richly polished, the deep brown finish is excellent. Doors and crown lift off to facilitate moving. Raised and shaped panels accent the doors. Corners are secured with hand-carved wooden pegs. A later brass key operates the lock, which appears original along with the wrought iron hardware. The interior is empty, and could be fitted with a closet pole or shelves as desired.
This rugged and usable antique furniture measures 5'3" wide, 23" deep and 6'8" tall.
