Carved Black Forest Antique Cuckoo Clock

A genuine German Black Forest cuckoo clock has both cuckoo and quail birds calling the quarter hour and the hour. Hand-carved of solid walnut with inlaid marquetry, the artistic detailing is exquisite. Three iron pine cone weights operate the brass time movement, quarter hour and hour birdsongs.

The original satiny finish is excellent. This antique from about 1900 keeps excellent time. Part of the "VI" hour marker is missing, see photo. These charming clocks have been carved in the Black Forest area of southwest Germany since the 1600's, and are a folk tradition.

Measurements of this picturesque clock are 17" wide, 8" deep and 20" tall, excluding the carved pendulum and weights.
