Awakening a Sleeper, Original 1880 Antique Dutch Oil Painting, 56

Awakening a sleeper with a feather is the subject of this large original oil painting from Holland, painted around 1880.

In a farmhouse, figures in traditional garb are tickling a young sleeping man with a feather. The composition and treatment of light and shadow are beautiful in this straightforward work of art.

There are repairs to the back of the canvas, see photos. A signature at the lower right is indistinct. The wide burnished gold frame has losses at the corners and minor touchups as shown.

Overall dimensions are 56" wide, 47" tall and 3" deep.
