This traditional Dutch armoire dowry cabinet or "Kas" from about 70 years ago descends with a family's daughter. Shelves and drawers would have held a bride's linens, pewter and silver.
The classic design of this cupboard dates from the Renaissance with deep hand carving in solid walnut. Genuine rosewood and ebony from the Dutch East Indies colony have beautiful grain. Remarkably detailed lions, sculpted moldings, angels, grapevines and columns are absolutely stunning.
Sliding the center column over reveals the keyhole and lock operated by a giant key. An especially lavish Kas, the finish is original and is in excellent condition with glowing rich patina. As prized heirloom furniture, the workmanship is exemplary on this importantly scaled furniture from Holland.
This grand and historic vintage armoire separates for easier moving, size is 6' 6" wide, 31" deep and 78" tall.
